To put Pretty Lights in a specific genre is pretty hard. Or better: impossible. Derek Smith, who is the guy behind Pretty Lights, creates tracks which doesn´t fit in a box. Rather he delivers sound for almost every situation. Some weeks ago on a Thailand trip we listened to his creations on a relaxed night at the beach but you could also find some real rave tunes for the club. Endlich! Zu lange haben wir auf Neues von Martin Gretschmann aka Console warten müssen. Aber es hat sich gelohnt! Rechtzeitig kurz vor Listenschluss noch ein elektronisches Highlight des Jahres 2010.

Das neue Album “Herself” verbindet die Stärken Consoles zu neuen Höhepunkten. Minimalistische, knarzende Power meets Popsongs. Es gibt an allen Ecken und Enden raffinierte Soundspielereien zu entdecken. Hin und wieder herrscht fast die Atmosphäre eines musikalischen Hörspiels, und wenn es fast schon zu experimentell zugeht wie bei ” Upon”, holt dich der darauf folgende atemberaubende Popsong “Her Eyes” zurück in die Gegenwart.

Ein Album, das man am besten am Stück hört und das beweist, wie spannend aktuelle elektronische Musik sein kann.
